Louise Conwell is a highly skilled and experienced criminal lawyer, who has dedicated her career to representing clients facing complex and serious criminal offences. Louise completed a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Philosophy) and a Juris Doctor (postgraduate law degree) at the University of Melbourne. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

A partner at Stary Norton Halphen, Louise has also worked as an associate to a Judge of the County Court of Victoria and volunteered at a number of community legal centres. Her passion for criminal law stems from her belief in the importance of the fundamental principles of the presumption of innocence and a right to a fair trial. She wanted to become a criminal lawyer to advocate for a diverse range of clients and bring a powerful voice for those facing prosecution.

Louise’s practice combines traditional solicitor work as well as contested advocacy. She is dedicated to the combination of technical legal work and robust advocacy that is required to successfully defend any criminal charge.

Her main area of expertise is in serious sexual offences, serious violent offences, and drug offences. She routinely appears in bail applications, committals, pleas, and contested hearings, including intervention order matters, family violence, drug, sexual, and violent offences. Louise has handled hundreds of cases, appearing in the Children’s Court, Magistrates’ Court, County Court, and Supreme Court.

A Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law, Louise has achieved several career milestones, including handling high-profile cases and receiving awards.
