Seven men from Geelong's soccer community, including Luka Jurkovic and Oscar Cosic, avoided conviction for performing a Nazi salute

Seven young men from the Geelong soccer scene, including Luka Jurkovic and Oscar Cosic, pleaded guilty to performing a Nazi salute at the Croatian Club in February 2025. They escaped conviction but were ordered to pay $500 to the court fund and are currently suspended from soccer. During the court proceedings, Defence Lawyer Sam Norton argued that the actions were not motivated by racism, arguing that “zealots, ideologues, don’t go to the Holocaust museum … they don’t undertake cultural awareness training”.

Louise Conwell, representing Christopher and Luka Jurkovic, emphasised that they are hardworking individuals engaged in their communities. Both lawyers highlighted the offenders’ remorse and steps taken toward understanding the impact of their actions.
