Case Studies
Explore case studies from Stary Norton Halphen & Galbally highlighting criminal matters defended by our lawyers across Melbourne and Victoria.
Our case studies provide examples of the matters we have acted in, including serious and complex criminal prosecutions, and illustrate the legal issues, strategies and outcomes involved in individual cases.
Unlawful Assault Charge Withdrawn Following Early Defence Representations
An information technology professional facing an unlawful assault charge had the charge withdrawn at the first court listing, following early review of the evidence and detailed representations by Brett Barratt.
Family Violence Intervention Order Application Dismissed at First Hearing
Brett Barratt successfully opposed a family violence intervention order application after an incident between two brothers. Thorough preparation and early engagement with police helped secure the dismissal of the application at the first hearing.
Successful Appeal Against a Personal Safety Intervention Order
Brett Barratt successfully appealed a personal safety intervention order in the County Court of Victoria. After a four-day contested hearing in the Magistrates’ Court, an order had been made against our client. The County Court allowed the appeal and set aside the Magistrates’ Court orders, meaning our client was no longer subject to the personal safety intervention order.
