High Court to decide Akon Guode infanticide, murder sentence anomaly

ABC Radio, Nov 19 2019

How should a person be punished for committing two very different crimes simultaneously? This was the dilemma faced by the High Court, which considered extending the prison sentence of a Melbourne woman who killed three of her seven children by driving her car into a lake. The program contained distressing themes, and those affected were encouraged to contact Lifeline at 13 11 14.

Featured guests included Simon Moodie, a criminal solicitor who represented Akon Guode at Stary, Norton Halphen; Natalia Antolak-Saper, a lecturer from the Monash University Faculty of Law; Anne Buist, a perinatal psychiatrist and Professor of Women's Mental Health at the University of Melbourne and Austin Health; and Dr. Russell Wate QPM, the founder of RJW Associates and a safeguarding consultant, as well as a former British homicide detective and specialist in investigating child deaths.
