Jason Roberts has conviction for Silk-Miller murders quashed; retrial ordered.

The Age, 10 November 2020

Jason Roberts, one of two men found guilty of the Silk-Miller murders, has been granted a retrial after the Court of Appeal found his conviction for killing the two Victorian police officers was unsound. Along with Bandali Debs, Mr. Roberts has been serving a life sentence for the murders of Sergeant Gary Silk and Senior Constable Rodney Miller, who were ambushed and killed on patrol in Moorabbin in 1998. Mr Roberts’, who says he is innocent and that Debs acted alone, was granted an appeal under new Victorian laws that allow for a second appeal when there is fresh and compelling evidence. The Court of Appeal on Tuesday morning quashed Mr Roberts' conviction for the murders and ordered a retrial. Mr Roberts’ solicitor, Simon Moodie, says that his client welcomes the decision of the Court, and looks forward to a fair trial. Given that there will be a re-trial he makes no further comment at this time.
